Free Business Idea

Just in case any of them are reading I thought I would throw out a free business idea, one I had a couple of months ago but which I have no time to launch and grow.
The idea came to me one day while reading a spam email (don’t worry, I’m not suggesting you go door to door selling herbal Viagra and refinancing mortgages). The email advertised a pretty common business of server/site monitoring. These companies charge you money to essentially say ‘yup, your site is still online, your server is alive’.
For a while I had to laugh that people pay money just to be told their server is still running, then I got to thinking about the area I live in. Thanks to the baby boomers, this place is practically God’s waiting room, with more and more retirees moving into the area on a regular basis.
So, when I put the two together, my idea was to offer life monitoring for seniors! You hire students, and once a day they visit each of the seniors on their route. Basically they just knock on the door, say hello, and maybe take out the garbage or something. Essentially they will do, say, 10 minutes of chores each day as they visit. Each employee would have a route planned that would have them doing a given number of seniors a day.
The seniors get the peace of mind of knowing that they will be checked in on once a day, and have someone to do a couple of quick chores that are difficult to do themselves (items from/dusting of the high shelves, garbage to the curb, etc.) Family of the senior get to know that Grandma is being checked up on and all right, and that someone will call them if something goes wrong. You can enter the info into a database at the end of the day and relatives can call and ask how grandma is doing.
You would need to balance the price you charge against the number of seniors you can check on in a day. You want to make sure that you make a decent amount per month, or that you can pay a decent amount per month. If you employ students, look at universities and maybe divide your routes between morning and afternoon students. You can also charge more for more time, for example if a senior wants a 1/2 visit on Wednesdays.
There you go, uptime monitoring for seniors. If you make it really big be sure to send me an honorarium.

You either don’t spend much time with the elderly or you don’t remember what it’s like but you can’t EVER just stop by for 10 minutes. They typically chat your ear off and a 10 minute visit turns into an eternity.
You’d be lucky if you got 5 visits in a day.

I love the idea. The barriers to entry are low as well as start up costs. This idea makes great since as a nanny or live in nurse may not be feasible at all times.
