Save Money, Get a Laser Printer

Tuesday, June 21st, 2005

Folks, if you do not print in colour, there is no reason to get an inkjet printer. A laser printer is far more economical than an inkjet, what with $50 getting you an ink cartridge that probably lasts for 500 sheets.
Anyway, just thought I would pass along to my Canadian friends that Futureshop has the [...]

Spending Feels Good

Saturday, May 28th, 2005

Wow, two Suze Orman related posts in a row…
I found myself watching the Suze Orman show tonight for the first time on CNBC. It is a special show tied into her new book The Money Book for the Young, Fabulous & Broke, and it involves her doing a sit-down with some young fabulous people.
In her [...]

Pawn Shop Lessons

Friday, May 13th, 2005

Being a little bored today, I hit a small cluster of pawn shops in the area. Here’s some of the things I observed:
1) While the smaller shops can have some good prices, the big shops usually offer 30 to 90 day warranties that make shopping a lot safer.
2) There are a fair number of people [...]

The Adventures of Scratch and Dent

Wednesday, May 11th, 2005

Sounds like a good title for a cartoon or video game, doesn’t it?
My wife and I were at Ikea last week and her favorite area in Ikea is the scratch and dent (or as-is) section. Lots of display and damaged items, all at a good savings.
The display and scratch items represent a good savings [...]

Eat Out and Save!

Tuesday, May 10th, 2005

One disadvantage of going on a financial diet is that you find yourself eating out less; why pay even $20 for a meal at a restaurant when that kind of money can feed you for a couple of days when used wisely at a grocery store?
One solution I have found is to be a secret [...]

Saving Money when Moving

Tuesday, May 3rd, 2005

Jeremy is currently offline because he is moving to New Brunswick, so I thought it might be interesting to discuss ways to save money when moving.
I’ll have been married six years in June, and in that time my wife and I have moved five times. These are a few things I have picked up along [...]

Nice Freebie List

Monday, May 2nd, 2005

There is a nice listing of freebies at SavingsAdvice.com in the form of a forum category. There are plenty of topic areas and a good group of active posters listing new freebies and discounts that come available.
Actually this is an interesting question: would the addition of forums to this site be a useful addition? [...]

Shopping for a Wreck - Update 2

Friday, April 29th, 2005

Oh the sheer and utter agony of it all…
So, to continue our story, it’s 10:30 this morning and I haven’t heard from the loan guys, the auction closes soon, and I still don’t have money to back a bid. At 10:40 with 20 minutes and counting I get through to the loan guys… I’m not [...]

Shopping For a Wreck - Update

Friday, April 29th, 2005

As you regular readers may remember, my continuing adventures in financial folly include shopping for a wrecked car. I have been frequenting a salvage yard in search of a nice wrecked vehicle that I can buy at auction and repair as a way of saving money on a newer vehicle (because as you may recall [...]
